The Healthy People

The objective selected for this study is the “Increase in the proportion of older adults who receive Diabetes Self-Management Benefits.”  This objective is aimed at increasing the number of adults who are able to receive self-management benefits for diabetes. Diabetes has been known to be among the top killer disease in the elderly, hence there is a need to put in place strategies to reduce the impact of this disease. The American Diabetes Association is one of the organizations working to ensure that this objective is achieved. The mission of this organization is to “Prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.” The organization is based in North Beauregard Street in Alexandria. It targets all people who have diabetes, some of the services offered by the organization include diabetes basics, foot and fitness, research and practice and how to live with diabetes.

The use of the community education program on diabetes self-management is one of the effecting ways of controlling diabetes among the adult people (Haber, 2013). This program needs to be rolled out in different regions and states so that the elderly people are educated on how to prevent, control and live with diabetes for those who already have the disease. If they adults are made to understand this self-management then cases of diabetes will be within the control of the relevant authorizes.  The steps which need to be taken for the health care professional to understand the availability of this service include; First, they is a need to educate all these professional on all the services which are offered by the government to its people. Secondly, there is need to educate them on the importance of this service to the people. The only way in which these professional can promote these services among their clients is by them sensitizing them on the importance of these services in the promotion of their health.

The high cost of the diabetes drugs is one of the limitations affecting the achievement of this objective. Hence, most of the people are not able to access quality drugs which are needed to control or treat diabetes among the people (Haber, 2013).  Therefore, there is a need for the government to support these organizations so that they will be able to purchase quality drugs which are effective in the treatment and management of diabetes among the adult.
