Individual Behavior and Communication Research Paper

Abstract

Human Behavior is quite complicated and dynamic. Psychologists and behaviorists have, through the years, analysis different aspects of behavior and attitudinal patterns. Some concluded similar findings whereas the others discovered unknown mesmerizing traits. Nonetheless, a person rarely shows one style of habits at all times. Therefore, it isn’t easy to affiliate a definite behavioral fashion with a person. One behavioral method may be predominant in his attitude. However, the fashion varies according to time and circumstances. Behavior is influenced by many exterior and inside factors.

As a half of a group, an individual’s behavior is affected by the position he assumes and the duty he shoulders in addition to the attitudes of his colleagues. He adopts a behavioral style and retains it as long as the staff works together. Consequently, his written, verbal and non-verbal communication will get adapted to his behavioral approach. The messages he receives are interpreted by him accordingly and the messages he sends are construed by the recipient based on his type of behavior.

Different Styles of Behavior

A dominant or a pioneer-style is often assumed by those group members who behave more as leaders and take initiative in proposing or pursuing an concept. An impressor tries to be within the supervisor’s good books and is extra like a sycophant. An adventurer is a risk-taker and a speculator. He appears primarily at the benefits of endeavor a project or a business enterprise and makes contingency plans for overcoming anticipated disasters. A go-getter is an fanatic and has an out-going personality. He is more probably to be successful than his colleagues. A director is sterner and really demanding of his teammates.

Behavioral Styles and Elements of Communication

The examine of human habits is somewhat challenging as a end result of behavior is complexly dynamic. The styles of attitudes and approaches in the course of behavior are influenced by a quantity of elements such as the setting, society, culture, non secular affiliations, schooling, and family traditions and background. As circumstances differ, a person assumes a behavioral fashion accordingly. It is likely that a person takes on two or extra behavioral types at the similar time or takes up a hybrid fashion which is a mixture of two or extra kinds.

The versatility in behavioral kinds is rising with the fast-moving world. Individuals assume various roles, interact with people from completely different backgrounds and cultures and are required to work as members of cross-functional teams in organizations. Today, as growing emphasis is positioned on worker empowerment and “organizational effectiveness”, the idea of working in groups is on the rise. As the “extra we try to work as a group, the more essential it turns into to acknowledge that individuals exhibit totally different behavioral styles” (Chaneski, 2006).

The people possessing totally different styles of behavior portray sure characteristics related to their particular kinds. However, it’s unlikely that “that all people of a selected behavioral fashion exhibit the entire traits portrayed” (Chaneski, 2006). These traits in addition to the weather of communication mutually impact one another. According to Wenger (1984), “Communication has seven parts: supply, message, receiver, channel, effect, feeback and evaluation” (p. 1215). The source is the sender; the channel is the medium by way of which communication is carried out; effect includes the response of the recipient; suggestions is the response from the recipient when he assumes the role of the sender; analysis is the evaluation regarding whether the message was acquired effectively (Wenger 1984).

Each individual would deliver a message in his fashion. Whether the message is obtained exactly is decided by the behavioral attitude of the meant viewers and the medium used. Therefore, members of a staff are ethically bound to use the best medium, applicable phrases, and a softer tone when communicating with colleagues particularly in the case of foreign teammates and non-verbal communication. Cultural variety within organizations is enhancing with overseas employment. “A Greek may see a contract as a formal statement announcing the intention to build a business… An Arab could also be insulted by merely mentioning a contract” (Guffey 2006). Besides, a person possessing a director’s behavioral style could use a slightly harsh tone when writing a letter. As his real angle can only be judged by non-verbal cues, a first-time recipient of his message could draw a negative connotation from it.

Conclusion

As personalities differ, so do behavioral styles. Some managers could also be more demanding and stern while others would be more helpful and behave like leaders and role models. These various attitudes have an effect on and at the same time, are affected by communication with colleagues. Differences in cultural and social diversity and the probabilities of wrong interpretation must be stored in mind when delivering a message.
